  The Gaming Club [Rating 8/10]
When it comes to judging the integrity of any online casino, the length of time it’s been successfully operating is a fair indicator of its trustworthiness. After all, any online casino that tries to pull a fast one on its players will disappear faster than a Pop Idol contestant’s dignity due to the speed with which news travels on the net. With that in mind The Gaming Club comes with immediately reassuring credentials, having started taking bets at its online casino back in 1995(!) – this, if you’re not already aware, is akin to the Jurassic Period in terms of the Web as a public medium. But does this also mean that this UK online casino has become a dinosaur when it comes to the modern standards set by its big game rivals like William Hill casino?

Well, to cut to the chase, The Gaming Club, and its distinctive-if-slightly-unsettling ‘Joker’ character (which to our eyes looks like a cross between the Emperor Ming and Rent-a-Ghost’s Mr. Claypole, i.e. scary), has clearly moved with the times, and presents a thoroughly bang-up-to-date online casino. Accredited by eCOGRA and part of the gaming supergroup Belle Rock, The Gaming Club comes with the kind of backing that inspires further confidence that you’re setting foot in a very dependable and respectable UK online casino. So far, so good.

The Gaming Club’s UK website is a pleasant enough place to land, being neatly presented if feeling a little ‘traditional’. We did find, however, that, although the navigation is not terrible, it is a bit untidy at times making finding new-user information far less obvious than it could be. For instance the link to the always-useful-FAQ is buried in a secondary list of navigation links at the bottom of each screen, which can easily be overlooked. Nor is the link to the game previews with their playing guides and tips part of the primary navigation. This online casino does have very good published content for newcomers, it just seems intent on hiding it with unobvious and inconsistent navigation! Maybe it’s all an intentional, ‘hilarious’ bit of mischief perpetrated by The Club’s wily Joker . . . (and if it is, we’d give the pointy-hatted prankster a Chinese burn to be honest.)

Anyway, while this UK online casino’s site navigation is a little iffy, thankfully its games are most certainly not. Like its Belle Rock brethren, The Gaming Club uses the splendid Microgaming Viper software to deliver a veritable smorgasbord of over 150 smooth and classy games that really create a very immersive atmosphere when playing here. Such a vast selection means downloading the full gamut of games entails a whopping 93Mb download, but The Gaming Club wisely offers some options to cater for players who might not have the speed of connection (or stamina) to cope with this. Aside from the usual CD of the software that can be ordered, there is a ‘lite’ option of the download casino, which gives you two games immediately and enables you to download the others while you are playing, plus a non-download version which offers entertaining play but with less sumptuous sound and graphics.

The promise of a non-download, Flash-based casino always gets our hopes up of multi-platform support, but sadly this UK online casino is a Windows only affair we’re afraid. It seems to be a limitation of all online casinos that use Microgaming’s software that the non-download version simply doesn’t want to play with Macs and other non-Windows users, despite using Macromedia’s Flash which should make this possible. Oh well, perhaps Microgaming will sort this out in a future update?

While we’re on the topic of software and suchlike, it’s also worth noting that players at The Gaming Club, as part of Belle Rock, can take advantage of the Belle Rock Buddy package. This is a convenient ‘console’ you can download to manage several accounts with Belle Rock and use to access bespoke content to enhance your online casino life. The Belle Rock Buddy isn’t an essential tool in our opinion, but it is a very nice freebie for registered players that reflects very positively towards this casino group’s efforts to please its customers. The Gaming Club’s UK casino customers are also well served by Belle Rock’s free support channels, and highly competitive promotions.

The Gaming Club is not the most distinctive UK online casino we’ve reviewed, but that does not make it a poor choice either. The parent Belle Rock Group has created a suite of very admired casinos online, and The Gaming Club’s UK site has a style and feel that marks it out as more ‘European’ than, say, the River Belle, which could well tip it in your favour. As we mentioned earlier, The Gaming Club is an old hand in the online casino game, and proudly boasts of "More Winners, More Often"; the veracity of that we think you'll have to judge for yourself, but we have no reservation in suggesting that, with its colossal range of first-class games, you should have a blast putting this evergreen casino’s claim to the test!
