Single Deck Blackjack
Blackjack is very easy to learn and a great way to start playing classic table games. A modern-day version of the French game ‘vingt-et-un’ (twenty and one), Blackjack is the most popular game in Britain and the U.S. today.

If you are a new Blackjack player, then you can read our ‘How To Play’ section for rules of the game. Seasoned players can go right to ‘Game Features’.
Game Features
1. Blackjack pays 3 to 2. All other wins pay 1 to 1 (your stake amount back)
2. The dealer MUST stand on 17 or more, except for soft 17
3. If you get 10 or 11 on your first two cards, you can double your bet.
4. Royal Match side bets - pay out if your first two cards have the same suit. See pay table below for further details
5. Single Deck Blackjack is played with, well…a single deck of 52 cards. The cards are shuffled after each round.
6. Insurance is offered if the Dealer has an Ace as the first card. Insurance pays out 2 to 1.

How To Play
In Blackjack, the name of the game is to get 2 or more cards closer to 21 than the Dealer. If your hand goes over 21, that is called a ‘bust’ and you lose. If you ‘stand’ when you have 21 or less, and the Dealer busts, then you win.

The best hand possible is a King, Queen, Jack, 10 plus an Ace – making Blackjack. If the dealer doesn’t also have Blackjack, you then win 1-½ times your stake. If the dealer has the same hand that you do, it’s called a ‘push’ (tie) and the game ends.

Card Values
Except for the face cards (Kings, Queens, Aces and Jacks) which are worth 10 points, all cards are worth their stated values. Aces can be worth 11 or 1 – the higher value always applies, unless it would result in your hand busting, and then the lower value is applied. This is done automatically.

The total of all the cards is your hand value. Example: you have an 8 and a Queen. Your total hand is 18.

Wagering
You have to place a wager before the cards are dealt. You can change the minimum and maximum bets allowed by either going to ‘Options’ or by using the Min/Max button on the screen.

When you’re ready to bet, just choose the chip value from the bottom right-hand side of the screen and click the card shaped part on the table, called the bet marker. You can vary your stake and select any position to play in. You can play in one, two or all three positions.

Beginning Play
After you’ve made your wager, you can click the ‘Deal’ button, and you and the Dealer will receive 2 cards. You’ll be dealt two cards for each position if you’re playing in more than one position. For now, we’ll just assume you’re playing one hand only.

You’ll be dealt the two cards face up. A number will be shown next to the cards, which is your current hand value. If you have an Ace, it will be either 1 or 11 – so an Ace and a 7 will show as 8 or 18. The Dealer will be dealt his first card face up and the second card face down. After all the cards have been dealt, you have the following choices:

Hit
If you opt to ‘Hit’, you are asking for another card. After you get the card, your new hand total will show. You can hit as often as you want; that is, until you decide to hold, go bust or until you have ‘Blackjack’ (21).

Stand
If you choose to ‘Stand’, you’re asking for no more cards. Your hand will not change.

Double
You have the choice to double your stake, if your first two cards equal 10 or 11. If you choose to double, then you will only be dealt one more card and your stake is increased by the original bet amount.

Split
Whenever you get 2 cards of the same number, you’ll have the chance to ‘Split’. If you choose this option, then your cards will be split into 2 different hands, and each hand will continue play. Your original stake will be duplicated, so in effect you’re playing 2 hands, and both have the same stake. There will be an arrow indicator that will tell you which hand to play first. There are 2 rules for splits:
1. If you get a winning 21 (Blackjack) after splitting a pair, it pays 1 to 1, but is beaten if the Dealer gets Blackjack.
2. You can have only one card dealt to either hand if you split a pair of Aces.
3. After a split, you can’t double.

Insurance
The Dealer’s first card will always be dealt face up. You have the option of choosing Insurance if the first card is an Ace. Basically, Insurance is a bet that the Dealer’s second card won’t result in Blackjack. It requires a stake of half of your initial wager. The side bet is lost and the game goes on if the Dealer doesn’t have Blackjack. If the Dealer does have Blackjack, then your side bet will pay out 2 to 1, but you’ll lose your main bet, unless you have Blackjack also. If the Dealer’s first card is an Ace, and you opt for Insurance, then the dealer will check for Blackjack.

Seven Card Charlie
You’ll automatically win the hand if you have a hand of seven cards without busting. This is called ‘Seven Card Charlie’ and it pays out at 1 to 1.

Royal Match Side Bets
The words ‘Royal Match’ appear next to each betting position. This is an optional side betting area. You can’t bet on only the side bet, but you can place chips in both this area and the main betting area. If you get your first two cards of match suits (i.e., both of them are Clubs), then the side bet pays out. For a King and Queen of the same suit, the Royal Match Bonus is then paid out.

Q & A
Q: Can I Split more than once?
A: No - you can only split your first two cards if they are the same denomination.

Q: Can I double whenever I want?
A: No, you can only double your first two cards if they total 10 or 11.

Q: If I get five cards with a total of 21, does it mean anything?
A: In the game of Pontoon, this is known as a 'five card trick', but it has no significance in the game of Blackjack. But, if you get 7 cards equaling 21 without busting, this is called 'Seven Card Charlie'.

Q: Why can't I bet more/less?
A: You need to chance your table limits by clicking on the Min/Max text in the top left of the table or by selecting Cashier - Member Services - Preferences and then Bet Level.

Q: What is a soft 17?
A: Soft 17 is a hand that equals a total of 17 using an Ace as 11. Example: an Ace plus a 5 and a 2 is a soft 17.
