Following are descriptions and reviews of ten bonus slots for you to explore on your next casino adventure.
1) Raining Diamonds: Ah yes, I can visualize the day when a guy sits down at the ‘Home Depot’ slot, lines up three bags of Philips head screws on the payline and a Black & Decker 10’ skill-saw drops down the chute. Somewhat exaggerated? Perhaps, but who knows what the future holds now that slots are able to dispense merchandise rather the coin. Actually, a slot attendant opens the machine’s vault and awards the player with his or her diamond prize on the spot. The Raining Diamonds slot is very elegant in appearance as expected, with five diamond prizes displayed above the video screen. Three or more bonus symbols on an active payline trigger the second-screen bonus event where you are prompted to catch raining diamonds, each with a hidden bonus reward. If more than one diamond is caught during a selection, the player moves to the next level accumulating amounts to a possible ninth level. OK, now about the ‘Ice’. There are three different bonus jewelry categories--Silver, Gold or the most valued; Platinum that are won by lining up five of the same symbols with max. coin in play. A winning voucher is printed and the player now has a few options. They can select a Platinum prize from the vault displayed on the slot machine or choose from a Prize Exchange kiosk located near the bank of each carousel. You can also ‘trade-up’--e.g., two silver tickets can be exchanged for one Gold level prize or a Gold and Silver voucher can be redeemed for a Platinum prize. Are you ready to ‘rein’ in those ‘raining’ diamonds?
2) Reel ‘Em In: Symbols include fruit, bell and 3 fishies. Scatter pay symbols are a fish, worm and an insect. Bonus screen shows 5 fishing characters where your choice brings in the ‘catch’ and a bonus amount.
3) Reel-Estate: back to a Monopoly favorite. This 9-line version offers a bonus round every 75 spins--better than 5-liner. The rest of the game is the same as the earlier version--scatter pays that lead to the board. Chance, Community Chest, the rich uncle and extra bonus $$ for collecting 3 of the same color properties. Love this new version and added benefits. Reminds me of childhood days spent competing at this board game.
4) Regis Cash Club is currently the most popular progressive slot. Featuring the image and voice of Regis Philbin, the game is an instant winner product with a jackpot of no less than $1 million. There are two bonus rounds--the Column of Cash and the Big Check. In the Column of Cash, players try to move up the column’s levels in order to win bonus credits. Big Check bonus is triggered by two or more Big Check symbols on any payline, Regis simply writes out a bonus check payable to the player. The MegaJackpot progressive is won when five Regis symbols land on the ninth line with maximum coins bet.
5) Richard Petty’s Driving Experience: Of course, there are racing symbols--checkered flags, pit-stop tools and racecars. Petty’s car landing anywhere in the pay window sends you to the bonus round. Revving engines and Charlotte raceway is the scene awaiting your eight choices of inside or outside to make a pass. Each time you make that pass you are upping the multiplier and upon completion, you are awarded top bonus of 500 X bet or 22,500 coins max. Roarrrr.
6) Risque Business: Similar to ‘Keep Your Hat On’ except the player gets to choose the gender of the stripper. Ahh, technology! Three or more ATM symbols anywhere on the reels reward a quick bonus after the player selects an ATM for a random coin amount. The second screen bonus is triggered when three or more dancers land on the payline. We are now transported to a strip club with noisy patrons, disco music and a male and female dancer. The player selects three patrons who will tip the dancer and begins accumulating bonus amounts with each item of clothing removed. The goal here is to successfully get six items of clothing removed, and then...wait, I can’t reveal that! You will have to check this one out yourself.
7) Roaring 20’s: three reels, 3-coin buy-a-pay with bonus spin features. Bar symbol wins are different from basic slots in that these symbols pay as to where they land on the payline, rather than for matching bars. So, bar pays range from 2 coins for single bar/two blanks up to 60 coins for single, double and triple bar left to right on payline. The Wild Bar symbol subbing for any bar on the payline increases the paybacks along the way. Top jackpot is paid for three 7’s on the payline. The name of the game is the Roaring 20’s star symbol activated by the third coin. Listen to the ragtime music while the reels spin until a cumulative bonus amount is paid after the reels stop. With a hit every 3 spins, the play action is fun and dizzying.
8) Rockin’ & Rollin’: Electric guitar, wild jukebox, ‘50’s convertible send you reelin’ daddio, yeah, cool man--get me to the pinball bonus game. I’m hep to go. Five scatter-pay coins ‘sends me’ to those flippers as I try for the ultimate ‘high’ of 90,000 coins. This cat digs the smooth sounds and pixs of this game.
9) Route 66: Comic adventure abounds along legendary Route 66 with a madcap All-American family and a dog named Poopsy. Check out the rear-view mirror for an endless supply of facts and folklore about Route 66. When you take a break, the game is setup so that the player can insert a club card into a Route 66 machine to pick up exactly where it left off.
10) Rubik’s Cube: The ‘Free Spin’ bonus is initiated when 3 ‘Professor Rubik’ symbols line up. You are rewarded up to 10 free spins with multipliers from 1x to 5x. The amount of spins is displayed on the left reel and the multiplier shows on the right reel, which leaves the 3 center reels free to spin. These three contain colors and the idea is to match all 3 for a 10x total wager bonus. There are 8 paylines for this bonus round, so the player has a chance to be paid up to 1,000 times the total bet. When three or more ‘Watch’ symbols land on a payline, the ‘Cube Bonus’ starts. The screen displays a scrambled Rubik’s cube and the player presses the ‘Go’ button, starting the cube assembly. A bonus meter shows the total credits that decrease as the number of twists increase. Okay, you geniuses, take a twist (but not too many) at this one.
