Following are descriptions and reviews of ten bonus slots for you to explore on your next casino adventure.
1) Pac-Man: The symbols presented are various icons from the original Pac-Man game and each of the three bonus rounds recalls an aspect of the arcade game. The primary-screen Munch Bonus occurs when the Pac-Man character lands on the first reel. The animated Pac-man proceeds to hunt down the fruit and blue ghosts, while accumulating bonus rewards. The PowerPill Free Spin Bonus is triggered when three pill symbols appear scattered on the first, third and fifth reels. Seven free spins are awarded with a rising multiplier amount appearing at the right of the screen on each spin. Multipliers from 1X-5X increase your bonus amounts and are then multiplied by the line bet. The main attraction is the Maze Bonus where the top screen animates into the classic Pac-Man scene with the munching character at the starting point. Power Pills at various points in the maze grant bonus amounts while ghosts end the game if they catch Pac-Man before he can eat all the pills. If all four pills are munched before the ghosts catch up, the player is prompted to pick one of four ghosts for a bonus award of up to 26,700 credits. To think, this best selling arcade game all started with an innovative person looking at a pizza with one slice missing.
2) Payout: A feast of colors for the eyes in this bonus-rich fruit, bar and 7’s version. The ‘Payout Bonus’ symbol activates the bonus game. ‘Match and Win’ spins that are completed freeze the action until a spin stop at which time bonus bucks are calculated as per schedule. ‘Line ‘Em Up’ bonus event begins with the player’s selection in a sequence of--column, then freeze, then another column, freeze--until three of the same appear up, down or across. Another round begins and the bonus win rises to a well-deserved Payout!
3) Pays Of Our Lives: Soap-opera music, dramatic voice-overs and humorous stories are integral parts of this very entertaining game. Duke and Lara, our soap characters, appearing anywhere on the screen with a heart symbol trigger a Mystery Pay bonus amount up to 100X your bet. Three or more Stork symbols on an active payline also result in a random bonus of up to 200 times the bet. There is two second-screen bonus events. The Black Widow Bonus places the player into the role of a widow who proceeds to select wealthy bachelors hoping each choice is deceased. Bonus amounts are accumulated with each dead husband until a selection indicating True Love ends the round. The other second screen event is called the Jury Game. You have become the defendant in a courtroom complete with judge and twelve jurors. Bonus amounts are rewarded as you select jurors providing they say “Guilty”. As soon as one member announces “Not Guilty”, the bonus round ends. Win or not, you are going to enjoy this hilarious game. What’s next? As The Wheel Turns Slot?
4) Penguin Pays: To begin, five polar bears is the top prize in this poker-style game. Add the whale scatter pay and wild iceberg symbol. When you line up the iceberg and a coin symbol on a payline, the result is a freeze at which time the skating penguin enters to start the secondary bonus. This smooth skating Penguin subs a wild symbol for each symbol in sequence, and then continues to every one of the 15 spots on the five reels to add to your jackpot total. If ‘the bird’ skates by a four-of-a-kind paying 500 coins, the end result multiplied could be as high as 5000 coins in the bonus round. I warned you--’Penguin Pays’.
5) Perfect Game: Bowlers, bowling balls and pins combine for two bonus rounds. First, five bowling pins take you to a bowling frame where two of the pins have the word ‘gutter’ above them. Collect your bonus amounts via the rolling ball until it hits a ‘gutter’ pin and you receive your reward. Three or more scatter ‘bowler’ symbols activate the second bonus treat where you select your bowler who will rack up points until a spare or strike is missed. Five strikes in a row brings the player in for a ‘Beat the Champ’ round. Bowling for Dollars was never this amusing, especially with the added features of animation and sound a la Williams.
6) Piggy Bankin’: The bonus slot that started it all. Piggy is waiting for players from the front of these slots and will donate a credit in the piggy bank as you start play. Line up three blanks and more credits are added to the piggy bank. When ‘Break the Bank’ symbol lands on the right reel payline, cash in, take the money and run. It takes an average of 80 spins for this win to replay. Play 1 credit/line as you wait to cash in.
7) Pink Panther: Look for the usual cherries, bars and 7’s, however our friend The Panther definitely makes an appearance along with the long-suffering Inspector Clouseau. Line up three PP’s on the payline to bring forth the bonus screen to select from many pink fuzzy critters. One hides Clouseau while the rest are racking up bonus amounts as you try to elude the ‘game-stopping’ Inspector. That familiar theme music and enough hits that get around the Inspector will ‘keep you in the pink’.
8) Popeye: The top jackpot is paid out in cash, and resets at $100,000. There are nine paylines and a max. coin bet of 45 coins in different denominations. The reel symbols depict Olive Oyl, Sweet Pea and other Popeye character symbols. The progressive is won by lining up five wild Life Saver symbols on the ninth payline. The main bonus feature is called the Brutus’ Big Boat Battle and is triggered when three or more spinach cans appear on an active payline. Popeye needs to rescue Olive Oyl, who is held captive on a ship controlled by Brutus. a.k.a. Bluto and his hilarious Goon Cronies. The player selects one of three paths for our hero to follow, while accumulating bonus amounts by fighting his way through Brutus and/or his Goons. Another bonus feature called the Wimpy Burger Feature is achieved when three or more ‘burgers’ appear on an active payline. Wimpy devours all the burgers while revealing multipliers for a possible top prize of 1,000 coins. There are ‘extras’ in this game that include an unheard of $5,000 on the nickel version. As Mom used to say, ‘eat your spinach’. She’s now finding that you get paid too!
9) Power Slotto: This is a video version of Atlantic City’s lottery themed Slotto game complete with TV hosts and convenience store items plus a lottery ticket outlet. There are two bonus events with numbered balls inside the top plastic sphere that drop down into a chamber when three or more Slotto Ball Blower symbols land on a payline. If the ball bears a number in the first bonus event, that number is multiplied by the line bet and paid to the player. A ball marked 2X rewards the player with another ball and three balls labeled 2X wins 8000 coins times the line bet. The second bonus is triggered when three ticket symbols appear on the payline. A convenience store clerk presents you with a lottery scratch-off ticket and you are prompted to scratch one of the six spots revealing a bonus amount or a Bonus Ticket that is hidden under just one of the spots. The bonus amounts are higher with each ‘Bonus Ticket’ spot scratched. This round ends when a player scratches one of the five spaces revealing any bonus amount. For those who purchase lottery tickets on a regular basis, this game will certainly hold your interest.
10) Press Your Luck: Snatched from TV history, comes the slot version of the popular game complete with a cheering crowd shouting: No Whammies!. Get past the general questions and you are off to play the Big Board with scattered prizes, cash, plus hidden whammies that wipe out all your hard work. The Big Bucks, No Whammy version sports multipliers too. The risk in continuing is up to you. Keep in mind that you avoid whammies by packing it in early.
