The Secrets of the Five Count
When you make a craps bet, the most important variable is the shooter. Some people really are good shooters. They may have a practice table at home, or they learned from one of the many classes available today exactly how to minimize sevens and maximize point numbers.

Even if you don't believe in dice control, it would mean more profits for you if you could choose which shooters you should bet on and which shooters you should avoid.

The five count is a method of playing that chooses which shooters to bet on. There are five steps to it, and Step One is when the shooter first throws a point number. If he throws a 7, 11, 2, 3, or 12 before the point, it doesn't count.

Step two occurs when the shooter throws a non-seven number. You now begin betting. Simply place an identical bet on both the come and don't come.
Step three, four and five requires that you make additional come and don't come bets at the same time, so now you have four sets of come/don't come bets. If one hits, just put another set up, even though you did not make any money as the two bets will have cancelled out.

On the five count, you add full odds to all of just your come bets. Then, as each number hits, make another come/don't come bet with full odds just on the come side.

When three rolls go by and none of your numbers hit, call all of your odds off. Wait two rolls, and if the shooter is still going strong, put your odds back up again. Then, continue this procedure for the remainder of the shoot.

The only downside to this of course, is the twelve. When it rolls you lose on the come but push on the don't. However, it is the casino's only edge, and will be more than balanced out from multiple hits on the come odds, which the casino has absolutely no edge on. And, the twelve rolls only once in approximately 36 rolls, so this is a pretty safe bet.
By waiting the five rolls before you put any real money at risk, you are testing the shooter.

If he throws any five good numbers you are going to bet with him by adding odds to all four of your come bets. However, if he throws a lot of non-point numbers, or sevens out, you haven't really lost anything. Your money is safe and reserved for a shooter who will win money for you instead of lose it.

Let’s look at an example.
The shooter throws a three and then a seven. These numbers do not matter. Then he throws an eight so this is Count One, the point. Now he throws a six (Count Two) so you bet one unit on both the come and don’t come. His next throw is a four so your bets travel (Count Three) and you put up another set of come and don’t come bets. Next comes a nine (Count Three) so now you have come and don’t come bets on the four and nine and another set of come and don’t come bets up. He then throws a three, so your come and don’t come bets cancel out and you put up new ones. Then he throws a five (Count Four), and a ten (Count Five).

So you have both come and don’t come bets on the four, five, nine and ten. Since you are now on the five count you add double odds to all of your come bets only. He throws an eight, but you already have four sets of bets up so you wait. Now he throws a five so you win, collect your winnings, and put another set of come and don’t come bets up.

He throws an eight, so your new come and don’t comes are on the eight. But now a twelve, a two and a five roll so you call all your odds off. The next roll is a seven. All of your bets cancel out so you’ve lost nothing and made money on the first five.

As an added bonus to the Five Count, you should receive full comp credit for all of your bets, even the ones that cancel out. So if you are playing at a spread casino and are a $5 bettor at a 2X odds table, you will have eight bets up (four come and four don’t come). This means you are a $120 player, even though only half of your bets will actually be working with odds added to them.

Some people use the five count on Internet Casinos, even though there is no real “shooter.” You can add to your enjoyment of the game by making things up about the “shooter” – their dress, habits, accents, drinks, whether they smoke, etc. And some people swear that using the five count like this really does work on the Internet, but you’ll have to try it out for yourself.

So, not only does the five count choose a good shooter for you, but it also doubles your comps, increases your play time, and decreases your risk!

And, as always, good luck at the tables!
