William Hill is a name that has become synonymous with betting in the UK, having been in the business since 1934(!) and for a septuagenarian it's looking more than sprightly. With over 1,600 betting offices in the UK and a world-wide telephone betting client base of nearly half a million it's no surprise that it has also built a pretty muscular presence in the online gaming world too. For such an old-established betting company, William Hill has proved to be very progressive in the new virtual arena, being one of the first UK online casinos out of the traps. Whether you're a newcomer to online casinos or a seasoned connoisseur of the virtual baize, William Hill is undoubtedly an operator you can trust with your hard-earned cash, but beyond its obvious propriety, will Will Hill fit your bill? (Try saying that quickly!)
The Welcome Page at William Hill's site is a very businesslike affair, even down to the central image of the pin-stripe-suited gent - probably fresh from a hard day's stockbroking - gazing darkly at his cards. The clear, uncluttered layout, whilst not wildly exciting, is very functional and choosing to dive straight into the games or hunting down crucial user information is equally easy. We must make particular mention of the excellent, comprehensive support provided through the William Hill Interactive Help Centre; this is a textbook lesson in how to structure and deliver user guides. Add in the freephone and email support on top of the wealth of published information, and the path for newcomers to get to grips with play at this online casino is delightfully free of obstacles.

There's a definite feeling that William Hill has really gone that extra mile to make their casino as accessible as possible, offering several currency and language options to widen its appeal and supporting a wide range of computer platforms through the option of both download and non-download games. As is the norm, the download games require a user to be running some flavour of Windows (even as archaic as Windows 95!), but the Instant Play Casino uses standard web software that lets Microsoft deniers in on the fun here too.
Registration is reasonably straightforward, but we did consider it a little more searching than some rival casinos. However this extra effort to register with William Hill is well worth the time as it unlocks the doors to much more than the online casino. With a William Hill One account sorted, players also have access to the sportsbook, telephone betting service, poker room and - we like this - mobile casino too! This latter option is something we expect to see popping up elsewhere in due course, but as of the date of this review, William Hill have really upped the ante with this facility. If your phone can handle it, you can now waft some William Hill casino action into your handset to play just about anywhere (sadly there isn’t a craps game yet, so our childish hopes of using the Greencloth MD's Nokia to play this casino classic on the bog were thwarted).

All this attention to customer service would count for naught if the actual games were a let down, but thankfully Will Hill haven’t dropped the ball here. The instant casino is very, very good, but if you can run the download software we'd urge you to do so as the seventy plus games here have a definite edge. Powered by the very highly regarded Cryptologic software, the download games are very rich in graphic detail with crisp sound that really makes for an engaging experience. Live chat facilities are the cherry on the top when it comes to recreating the authentic ambience of a real bricks 'n' mortar casino, and, interestingly, William Hill also offer a real-time news and stocks feed too. No doubt the swarthy City-type on the website's front page plays here for that very reason . . .
This online casino has the usual promotions such as the ubiquitous Welcome Bonus, which are fine though not outstanding, however we suspect it will be the progressive jackpots that will prove a bigger draw to new players. William Hill's success so far in attracting customers to play online at its casino (they boast of having close to 300,000 active clients and growing) means it also generates very hefty progressive jackpots into the bargain. At the time of this review the biggest progressive was topping £1.5 million - now that is what we call a whole hill of money (no pun intended)! In sharp contrast to this, William Hill can also lay claim to some of the most frugal minimum stakes on the net (some games offer 1p stakes and the minimum account deposit can be as little as £2 using certain credit/debit cards), so there's no need to be a high roller to fit in with the crowd here.

Frankly, there's little to fault with this UK online casino. William Hill really have put together an excellent product with many worthwhile options allowing customers to tailor their user experience to their specific needs. Returning to answer our earlier question; we cannot imagine that there can be many online casino players for whom Will Hill wouldn’t fit the bill.
