The overall aim in Pai Gow Poker is to form two hands from seven cards – a ‘high’ hand of five cards and a ‘low’ hand of two cards – both of which rank higher than the dealer’s two hands. The ranking of hands is explained below.     Playing the Game As with other Poker-based games played at online casinos, Players place a wager ahead of the cards being dealt. Once they are happy with their bet, the cards are dealt, seven to the player face up, and seven to the dealer face down. After the deal the player then forms the two best high and low hands he or she can. The deck of cards used in Pai Gow includes one Joker in addition to the standard 52 cards. This Joker can only be used as an Ace or a card to compete a Straight, a Flush, a Straight Flush or a Royal Flush.  The high hand must be higher in rank than the low hand before it can be compared to the dealer’s hands. Once happy with their combination of high and low hand, the player then gets to see the dealer’s cards. The dealer will split their cards into high and low hands according to fixed house rules, and then the comparison of ranking is made. If both the player’s high and low hands outrank the dealer’s, the player wins. If only one of the player’s hands is higher than the dealer’s, this is a tie and the player’s wager is returned. If both of the player’s hands are lower or both are equal to the dealer’s, the dealer wins.     Hand Rankings Because of the inclusion of a Joker to the standard deck of cards, the ranking of hands in Pai Gow is slightly different from standard Stud Pokers. They are in descending order of value: Hand Description Four Aces + Joker All Aces plus the single Joker. Royal Flush Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 from the same suit. Straight Flush Five cards in consecutive order from the same suit. Four of A Kind All four cards showing the same number or picture. Full House Three of a Kind and a Pair (see below). Flush Five cards of the same suit. Straight Five cards in consecutive sequence in any combination of suits. Highest ranking Straight is A, K, Q, J, 10 and lowest 6,5,4,3,2. Three of a kind Three cards showing the same number or picture. Two Pairs Two groups of two cards showing the same number or picture. One Pair One pair of cards showing the same number or picture. Nothing A hand with no matching cards.     Payouts A winning hand earns a player even money, although typically the house takes a commission of around 5% on this so, for example a bet of £10 can net the player £9.50 on top of that.
